Hats for brides.
In the U.S. they went out of mainstream style in the 80’s, right? Their last real mainstream heyday here in the states was the 70s, with its fashionable penchant for floppy brims and the brief resurgence of prairie chic. (Gunne Sax, anybody?)
Long the the preserve of garden parties, nursery rhyme heroines and the occasional fancy horse race, the right straw hat can be an understated foil to the most elegant dress most women will ever wear.
Naturally, a bride needs to know what she’s doing in order to pull it off without looking hopelessly anachronistic. It may be simple, the straw hat, but pairing it with a gorgeously grown up gown can make a singular statement of derring do.
Embellishing the humble hat with a bit of ribbon, netting, lace or tulle multiplies the moods and modes of enchantment, while a smaller brimmed boater has sassy charm all its own. Equal parts romance and whimsy.
The straw hat signals ladylike loveliness in an age of modernity. Artfully free of hidden artifice, agenda or irony. In a wide variety of iterations to suit each bride, all of them are fetchingly fresh and occasionally freewheeling.
